So I got new rear tires today and they discovered one of my wheels was cracked. That would explain my slow leak. So I needed new wheels, and well...

Kinja'd!!!

They’re getting mounted tomorrow at 1. Excitement level is OFF THE CHARTS.

I was always a fan of those wheels.

Fantastic design.

Star also, for not calling it “rims”.

How much do they weigh? They look good but they look heavy.

They're not too bad. No idea on an actual number but they can't be any heavier than the Double Spoke IIs on the car now.

I cracked 3 of those wheels on my e36 when I had it. Even after switching to a 3 ply tire. Switched to a e46 replica wheels. Lighter, cheaper, and never cracked :]

Actually those are the lightest E36 wheels I do believe.

I’m also looking to put some Contours on my car. I went between these and DS2s for a while but decided these would look better on a sedan. Only issue is I can’t seem to find a good set for sale in my area, but there are a ton of DS1s and DS2s available. Will have to keep looking.

Also, it seems as though we’re gonna have matching cars...

They’re actually on the heavier end, but the range (at least for factory wheels) is fairly narrow: 19.7 front/20.9 rear for the forged LTW wheels up to 22.2/23.4 for the contours. It’s not like there are 25 lb factory 17" wheels. At least not from BMW.

But they are definitely my favorite style (other than the super sexy CSL/competition wheels on the e46).

They are slightly heavier, but BMW didn’t make factory wheels that are TOO heavy.

In fact, the lightest are around 20 front/21 rear, so you’re not giving up much at all.

And definitely the sexiest for the e36.

Now, someday when you buy a second set of wheels so you can run summer and winter rubber, you can go for pure weight reduction. There are some amazingly light (16.5 lbs) wheels out there (Apex and Kosei K1s are at the top of the list).

Go square and you’ll be in handling heaven!

It’s a little thing, but the contours are a little heavier. You may or may not notice the difference. And even if you do it may or may not matter to you.

You can always wait for some old BBS (I want to say RC?) or some APEX wheels, which look great and are SIGNIFICANTLY lighter.

And on those you will definitely feel the difference - and then it will matter to you.

I wanted contours for a long time - still think they’re super sexy. But I’m definitely glad I held out and saved up.

Weight isn’t a big thing for me. It’s a daily driver so I won’t notice. Eventually I want to get some TE37s, so until I can afford them, the Contours will do.

Wow, and wow!

Those are amazingly light - I’ve never seen anything come close to the APEX 17x9 concave wheels, but those Volks are close - and the 17x8.5s are actually LIGHTER!

But the price gets a wow, too! Holy smokes!

You’re doing the right thing - you won’t notice the (maybe) 1lb difference between your DSIIs and the Contours, but you’ll be amazed what dropping 4 lbs per corner does.
